Building knowledge: The Bigger Picture

As we teach in mixed-age classes, our curriculum is in a 2-3 year rolling cycle so by the time they leave a phase of the school, they would have covered the ambitious content we have planned in order to be ready for the next phase.  Maths and elements of English are the two exceptions to this in which we organise for children to achieve their year group expectations.

The brick wall example of a History unit shows what came before and what lies ahead for children.  This demonstrates that the learning we have planned is sequenced so that things make sense and knowledge is built over time.
