In April, we asked all our parents/carers to complete a short survey about their child’s experience of school over the past few months. It has been a challenging year for our whole school community, but we were delighted to find that a the vast majority of families feel confident that their child (or children) feels happy and safe at school and would not hesitate to recommend our school to others.
After the long periods of lockdown experienced by most of our families this year, it is hugely encouraging to see that 94% believe their child has settled back into school life very well, even those reception and year 1 pupils who only joined in September 2020!
Behaviour is also considered to be a plus at the school with 44 out of 47 families who responded saying they believe children behave positively. We are a close-knit community and are proud how well we are able to communicate with our families. Over 90% of respondents agreed that home to school communication is good, although we can do more to ensure all our parents feel fully aware of what children are learning at school.
It is inevitable that incidents and concerns arise during the school year and it is important to us that our community feel supported when these things happen. Whilst the majority had no reason to raise a concern or incident, those that did overwhelmingly felt that issues were dealt with quickly and effectively. Satisfaction with our SEND provision is also very encouraging with parents who child has special educational needs all confident that school is providing the required support.
Acting Head Mr Atkins said, “The feedback from this survey is impressive and I would like to give credit to the dedication of the staff and Mrs Rood over the past months. They have worked tirelessly to ensure the children feel settled and safe and are able to make progress at school.”
Mrs Skews, who is joint Acting Head was also pleased with the comments made by parents and carers, “I am so grateful to all our families for the support they have given the staff this year and proud that our whole community has pulled together and put the best interests of the children first during this difficult year. My aim, alongside Mr Atkins, is to ensure that over the coming year we continue to build on what we have achieved so far and minimise any further disruption to learning.”
Comments from parents/carers:
“It’s been a terrible time but it’s been handled brilliantly by the amazing staff, my child is happy and settled and it could so easily not be the case. I can’t thank you all enough!”
“I have been very pleased with the school this academic year. I feel my children are being pushed to achieve their best, with the work being tailored to their specific ability where necessary. The effort put in, by the teaching staff, to the online learning during lockdown was obvious and it made home-schooling a lot less stressful than it would otherwise have been.”
“My twins began school in september and have been welcomed with open arms and made friends and settled in so quickly. Both in school and during home schooling communication was excellent and I felt very well supported.”
“As a parent I feel that my child is treated as an individual and that all the Teachers and TAs are very attentive to his needs. I think the Class Dojo app is very good and I feel included in his teaching and love seeing what he and his classmates have been up too. I have felt very supported by all staff as a new parent joining mid term and feel nothing is too much trouble to ensure my son settled and enjoys his learning. I cannot commend this school and it's wonderful staff high enough and we are so pleased we choose Spaxton. Well done.
